INSTALLATION GUIDELINES
PureWood™ decking is real wood which has undergone a unique thermal-modification process known as TMW. You can use it
like you would regular raw wood. Cut it, sand it, nail it, drill it, paint or stain it as you would practically any standard-grade lumber.
A few points that will help ensure the best finished results:
- PureWood deck boards are a full 1-1/4" thick, and can span 16" on center for the deck and 12" on center for stairs;
however, because deck boards are an integral part of a deck's structural system, we recommend that you place support
joists at the conventional 16" on center.
- Since most applications place PureWood over a treated sub-structure, be sure to use an approved fastener for the
treated lumber. The strongest built decks are achieved by using two fasteners per joist through the top of the deck
board. There are no issues or reactions from PureWood contacting exterior-grade fasteners.
- Due to its low moisture content, you should use extra care in handling PureWood
Decking.
- A 30-tooth or better carbide-tipped saw blade yields excellent cutting results.
- Always pre-drill holes to achieve the best results.
- Deck boards must be gapped at the time of installation, typically 3/16" or 1/4" apart. As the longest PureWood deck
boards are 20', be sure to butt board ends tightly.
- Should you decide to apply a coating or sealant to PureWood, we recommend doing so before or immediately following installation. See the Care & Maintenance PDF for details.
- Safety first! As with any decking material, avoid the inhalation of sawdust. Be sure to use a dust mask and appropriate eye protection when cutting PureWood Decking.
